Learn About Civic Opportunities

Learn
about civic opportunities at volunteer fair

UM’s Office for Civic
Engagement will hold the annual Fall Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 6-7, in the UC Atrium.

Students and community members
can learn about numerous volunteer opportunities available around Missoula from
representatives of more than 20 nonprofit organizations at the fair. The event
is free and open to the public.

The Office for Civic Engagement is a department
of the Davidson Honors College. It serves as the University’s primary agent of
community activism and civic responsibility.

For 9.6…

1) Read “Love Actually.”

2) Write a one page reaction paper as outlined here. (Turn in during class).

3) Start thinking about your Family Tree project.

For Thursday!

Hey everyone,

I know it says on the syllabus to post your 6-word memoirs on the blog before Thursday, but don’t.

Instead, bring them to class on that notecard that Mary handed out in class and make sure they are also recorded in a notebook somewhere.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion!

-Shannon

Reflective Journal

Due 10/18

How did you react to these two videos? Explain the parts that evoked your strongest reaction, and analyze why.

Journal Guidelines

If you want to write an extra credit paper (10 points), use this journal as a starting place, and write a thoughtful, objective opinion piece on cultural appropriation—3 pages, the usual formatting guidelines apply.

Journal Four: Imagery

Reflective Journal

Due 10/13

Write about 300 words (typed, double spaced) about the image you chose to bring to class last week.  What compels you about the images you chose? What story did the image evoke; what meanings did you see in it?
